Loosing Hair – First Loose These Myths

Hair loss, most commonly is genetically determined, that is how much hair you will have and when and how much you will loose, in what pattern is more often than not determined by the genes you have received from your parents.

So someone told you that you lost hair due to excessive use of shampoo? Or was it frequent use of hair dryer or hair coloring’s?

Well all these and a hundred such reasons people give you for hair loss are nothing more than myths.

Here’s what trychologists or hair specialists tell us about loss of hair.

Hair loss, most commonly is genetically determined, that is how much hair you will have and when and how much you will loose, in what pattern is more often than not determined by the genes you have received from your parents.

Let’s demolish a few more myths here, male baldness as is often believed is not passed on from the maternal side and similarly female baldness again as is most often believed, is not passed from the male parent. Both sides of the family tree are equally responsible for passing on the hair gene/s.

The exact gene or genes haven’t as yet been identified, but it is the combination from both sides of the family tree that gives each one of us our unique hair loss pattern.

No amount of washing, coloring, drying, brushing or combing the hair can actually cause hair loss according to these experts.

Seeing all those hair in the sink while washing them or stuck on to the comb while combing can be really scary. Many of us therefore start believing that it is washing or combing that’s causing the loss.

The fact of the matter is that we loose around 100 to 150 hair each day. And that’s perfectly normal. The problem is not the hair that you are washing out or combing out. The entire problem is not the hair that you are loosing out but the problem is that these hair are not being replaced normally. Hair like nails grows back cyclically.

The problem is when they do not grow back as they normally should or when they start changing in their nature. With age the hairs that grow back do not grow back to the same length or the width, with each cycle they keep getting shorter and finer.

This is the reason of the perceived loss of luster and bounce too in the hair. So, the hair truly speaking is growing back but with each replacement is becoming thinner and shorter. This process again depending on heredity starts pretty early, sometimes may be even in the teens or a little later and of’corse carries on all through one’s life.

Therefore the belief that one looses hair in the 50s is also a myth.

The only other reasons of hair loss can be diseases like cancer, TB etc., stress, general bad health or a localized problem like applying too hot a hair dryer from too close a distance that actually burns the skin with follicles, or some harsh chemicals etc.

So let not frequent washing, coloring, drying, brushing, combing, shampooing etc. ever cause you any more worry about hair loss. To keep them lush just ensure you have a healthy, nutritious, balanced diet, get lots of exercise and stay stress-free.

The hair loss that happens despite this is something you can do precious little about. So no point sweating and stressing about it and aggravating it.
